Back to Normal

Whew. It seems as if the hysteria here on So Anyways may have died down a bit, so maybe I can get a word in edgewise amongst all of the comments!

I'd like to thank everyone who commented in the last couple of days. Little did I know that one simple whine would result in an explosion of comments showering down upon me. It made me giddy with excitement.

I would like, however, to take exception to a term that has been used to describe me over the last 24 hours - "comment whore." Isn't that a bit harsh? I mean, I love getting comments, and I'd do just about anything for them, including sullying my good name and reputation. But, "whore"? That's such a tacky word. I'm thinking "comment afficionado" would be so much more appropriate.

I'm also really happy to know that my little blog has allowed Scott & Buckaroo to decide to have pizza tonight, that Todd and Kevin will be dining at Little Azio and that Bailey will hopefully get his leash back, and that Scott C and his partner won't run out of dog food today - all thanks to So Anyways. It's service that I'm happy to bring to all of my blog buddies. It's truly the least I can do.

Notice

This is to let you all know that So Anyways is no longer just a blog. It's a personal communication tool for all of those gay (or straight) couples out there who need to communicate with each other but would rather do so in written form instead of by the old-fashioned and not nearly as entertaining way of actually walking across the house to speak to each other.

So feel free to use the Comments section below to discuss what you and your lovah' want to watch on TV or whether you should order out for pizza or Chinese.

If you're not really sure just how this would work, just check out the Comments section under the following post. S-o-R and B-a-R have it all figured out.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I feel so special. :)

I'm Overwhelmed

I'm overwhelmed at the number of comments on my last few posts. Usually, I can write 15 entries in between comments, but today, the comments are piling up almost faster than I can keep up.

Of course, I do realize that there has apparently been some major malfunction with the Typepad system (they just installed a bunch of upgrades and quite a few bugs as well), so comments are getting duplicated several times over as a result. But still, it's kinda cool just to see those big numbers and pretend that I'm one of the popular kids!

I should probably delete the duplicate comments, but I think I'll hold off on that for a bit. I'm going to bask in the glory for awhile. Plus I'm more concerned about figuring out how to fix this weird font that the Typepad upgrade left me with.

Anyway, thanks for the comments!

Jiff or Skippy?

We got in a discussion in the office today (we being a group of geeky engineers on a Friday afternoon in a meeting but with absolutely no interest in doing anything worthwhile) regarding the proper pronunciation of "gif" (as in the extension for graphics files).

One of the girls in the meeting kept pronouncing it with a soft "g", as in "jif". Another guy in the same meeting sent me a text message saying, "I say we move to Skippy and leave the Jiff behind." He obviously agreed with me that it should be pronounced with a hard "g" as in "gift."

I told him later that I've heard the "jif" pronunciation before, but only from stupid people. Intelligent people know it's pronounced like "gift." Just like "gigahertz" - people who say "jigahertz" are just plain dumb and obviously don't know what they're talking about.

Then the inevitable happens. The original co-worker who started the whole discussion finds this web site that supposedly settles the issue and proclaims her pronunciation to be correct.

I guess I was the stupid one. I don't care though. Anyone who says "jigahertz" is still dumb.

I'm a Big Dummy

After about 24 hours of a dead computer at work, I'm finally back to the land of the living! It's unbelievable how much of a slave I am to my computer, especially at work. It seems that should be the other way around, but I can tell you, I can't do anything at work without my computer. Thankfully, it was only (!) the hard drive that died. Everything now seems to be back to near normal, so I can work (and blog) just like old times.

So, something has been really bugging me lately. Everyone in blog land keeps throwing the word meme around, especially with the "20 Questions" one going around now. I like reading everyone's questions and answers, but it was bugging the heck out of me that I was unfamiliar with the word meme. Is it a contraction of two words? What does it mean, really? What's its origin? Am I the only one who doesn't have a clue?

I probably am the only one who didn't know the word, which means I've just made a fool out of myself by publicly admitting it.

What disturbs me almost as much, though, is the definition I finally found (after giving in and looking it up on dictionary.com:

n : a cultural unit (an idea or value or pattern of behavior) that is passed from one generation to another by nongenetic means (as by imitation); "memes are the cultrual counterpart of genes"

I dunno. It seems kind of scary that everyone's passing around "the cultural counterpart of genes." It almost makes it sound as if everyone's swapping spit or something.

At least I know the word now.

Who Am I?
